Welcome to the SnM Stuff links page. In one or two cases we have swapped links with the people we're lining to, but we only put links on here that we think you might find relevant, helpful, or just plain amusing.
Please note that all the links will open in new windows.
Modelling & Gaming Related Things
The links in this section include forums, manufacturer's own websites, and suppliers of modelling goodies whose range is complementary to our own.
Platoon Britannica - one of the UK's top forums for model making, sculpting and painting. Some impressive award winners are regular contributors !
Vallejo - the official Vallejo site, in Spanish and English. They've got some really useful FAQ's on their products, as well as helpful charts of paint colour cross-references.
Anvil Industry - An English company making a lovely range of high quality resin figures and accessories. The metallic parts of some of the Praetorians on their site were painted using the Alclad II lacquers we sell.
Modelshop.co.uk - A useful website enabling you to hunt down your nearest model shop, or ones near wherever you are going. We can be found there under our "shop" name ("Modelling & Gaming Supplies").
Historical Reference Information
The links in this section may not always be pure colour scheme information; hopefully you'll find useful background info, as well.
The Napoleon Series - quite possibly the definitive website on all things Napoleonic ! It's organised as a structured collection of individual articles, over 12,000 in all, each created by an expert in that specific aspect of the Napoleonic Wars, and covering everything from uniforms and organisation to detailed histories of obscure battles.
WWII Reference Guide for Gamers and Modelers - an incredibly useful website, basically a series of links to other sites each of which specialises in research into specific topics within this enormous field. Many of them contain useful photographs and facsimiles of original documents.
Aces & Planes of the Luftwaffe - a reference guide put together by Alex Methenitis. Really well organised and illustrated website providing a good, clear introduction to the camouflage schemes and tactical markings used by the Luftwaffe in WWII.
Helpful Businesses and Companies
The Small Brown Dog K9 - Our web developers. They pulled off a minor miracle getting this site ready for launch on a stupidly tight timescale; real problem solvers !
APC Overnight - APC are the couriers we use when we ship higher value orders within the UK. One of us (guess which one...) used to work at their local depot, so we know exactly how to get the best out of the system and who to talk to when there are queries ! APC's service is second to none, and much better than many of the better known known "names" in the courier business. Each depot is an independent local company, so they combine local knowledge and dedication to service with a UK-wide infrastructure.
Painting and Terrain Services
Sometimes, you just don't have time to paint your own armies, want that special figure to lead them, or a lovely piece of customised terrain, but haven't had time to practice your own technique to the point where you could do it justice. Below are links to some great model painting services, covering a variety of genres and styles. I have to admit to a bit of commercial self-interest here, they all buy things from us, so if you get figures from them, we're still making an indirect sale. But we're also great believers in working with other small businesses in the modelling, wargaming and gaming sphere - there's enough room for all of us, each with our own specialist niches !
thrillermiller paintings - specialises in 28mm and 40mm subjects from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as some great basing techniques.
Terra Firma Studios - these chaps make some of the highest quality wargaming terrain we've seen in a long time ! They do a great range, and can accept commissions for custom-built scenery to your own design.
Fun Stuff
Jeb's Jobs Episode 1 (Technical Support) - Probably the funniest animation I've ever seen. If you don't find yourself laughing until you cry, there's something wrong, you'd better go and see your shrink.....
Ravenblack - an online vampire role-playing game I've been playing for about the last 8 years. The basic game is a very simple point and click thing, what makes it so addictive are the forums, clans and role-playing aspects that the players have created over a long period of time.
The Napoleonic Association - wargaming on a 1-to-1 scale ! This is something I do in what little spare time I have, and is an invaluable way of learning more about how uniforms and equipment are made and behave "in real life". The members of the Napoleonic Association are a source of a wealth of information about the period, not just the kind of thing you find in history books, but the practical aspects of life at the time. With related groups across Europe, it's amazing to get contingents together from all across the continent to re-enact on some of the original battlefields and see the end result of the earth trembling as a thousand-man French column advances.
